Thinking and Acting on Climate Change

Milton Keynes is thinking about the future. How can the city continue to grow and prosper without expanding its carbon footprint and contribute towards damaging climate change? The city needs to learn from its past successes to take action NOW to safeguard the future. This website looks at actions that the city has taken and offers ideas for you how you can reduce your own carbon footprint and save money at the same time.

climate change
and mk

This section of the ThimkAgain! website looks at what's happening in the city - what's been done up to now, what we're currently doing and what we will have to do in the future.

Milton Keynes was concerned about its use of finite natural resources, such as energy, from the very start as a designated new city. In the 1970s and 80s there were ground breaking projects such as the Bradville Solar Home, Pennyland and the Milton Keynes Energy Park, building on the Energy World exhibition. More recently, the city has been a pioneer in incorporating small scale renewable energy into developments and has recently established a ground-breaking carbon offset fund on new homes. But if the city is to remain among the leaders, it needs to decide now what has to be done over the next 40 years...

climate change
and the world

If we don't take action now, the world will be a very different place for our grandchildren. Find out what some of the effects might be!

This looks briefly at what might happen if emissions of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas, continue unchecked. There could be rising sea levels, more severe storms, crop failures around the world, mass migrations of populations away from coastal areas and the largest loss of wildlife ever seen. And that's just by the end of the current century...

climate change
and you

Of course, the biggest contributor to man-made climate change is...YOU!

This section looks at how our everyday choices on things as simple as to how to heat our home or where to go on holiday could have global consequences. Will switching the central heating down help stop the Greenland ice sheet melting? If we buy less air-freighted fruit and veg might it mean fewer plants becoming extinct? And could taking a ferry rather than a plane ensure that the sea level doesn't rise?

Terms and Conditions

This site is designed to explain that doing nothing is not an option. So as part of your use of the site, we expect you to take some action such as contributing to the campaign, or reducing your energy use at home or at work to cut your carbon emissions. Oh, and if you expected this footnote to tell you about all the boring legal bits, like who owns the images, how many rain forests were chopped down at the design stage and whether we are capturing your personal data, then you'll have to follow the link to our legal bits'n'bobs page.
